Chief of naval personnel visits IWTC San Diego

SAN DIEGO — The chief of naval personnel recently visited Information Warfare Training Command San Diego to engage with instructors serving in the region.
 
During the Aug. 12 visit, Vice Adm. Richard Cheeseman met with active-duty and civilian cadre who are instrumental in providing information warfare training to enlisted, officer and joint service personnel in the 3rd and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
 
The chief of naval personnel expressed his gratitude for their unwavering dedication and many contributions to preparing a force that is more lethal and survivable because of the training emphasis on assured command and control, battlespace awareness and integrated fires to achieve freedom of maneuver across all warfighting domains.
 
The visit also included discussions about initiatives focused on increasing recruitment, retention, and prioritization of operational and training billets, especially in the ever-expanding fields of information technology, cryptology and naval intelligence.
 
Cheeseman said it’s important for the Navy to continue improving the process of retaining a highly trained and talented workforce.
 
“We are immensely grateful for the occasion to exhibit our capabilities and highlight the actions of our innovative, committed and skillful team providing a continuum of information warfare training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations,” said Cmdr. Daniel Flemming, IWTC San Diego commanding officer. “We appreciate Vice Admiral Cheeseman’s commitment to ensuring our command is staffed with high-performing and experienced instructors to best deliver on our mission.”
 
IWTC San Diego leaders said the chief of naval personnel’s visit underscored the Navy’s vital requirement to master the tradecraft of planning, integrating, and executing information-related capabilities and operations to produce joint effects within all domains.
 
As part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, IWTC San Diego provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
 
With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, Center for Information Warfare Training provides instruction for over 26,000 students every year, delivering information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic, information systems and electronics technicians; intelligence specialists and officers in the information warfare community.
