NAVAL BASE GUAM (Feb. 27, 2024) – Repair efforts at the Naval Base Guam (NBG) Teen Center are well underway, as construction crews were seen removing old flooring for replacement on Feb. 27. To date crews have already replaced half of the flooring in the building.
The NBG Teen Center suffered extensive water damage after Typhoon Mawar ravaged the island on May 24.
Since then, the program has been operating out of a classroom at the NBG Child Development Center. According to MWR Fleet Readiness Director Donna Spaddy, they are working towards re-opening the Teen Center in April.
Once flooring and final inspections are complete, furniture and supplies will be moved back into the facility.
The teen center provides a space with activities and programming tailored to teens’ interests and needs that focuses on education support and career development, character and leadership development, health, wellness and life skills, the arts, and leisure and other recreation activities.
