NSA ANNAPOLIS WINS 2023 NDW INSTALLATION EXCELLENCE AWARD, MOVES TO NAVY-WIDE COMPETITION

Commandant, Naval District Washington (NDW), Rear Adm. Nancy Lacore has named Naval Support Activity Annapolis the NDW regional winner of the Installation Excellence Award (Small) of the Year for 2023. The award recognizes the outstanding work of those who operate and maintain Navy shore commands.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Commandant, Naval District Washington (NDW), Rear Adm. Nancy Lacore has named Naval Support Activity Annapolis the NDW regional winner of the Installation Excellence Award (Small) of the Year for 2023. The award recognizes the outstanding work of those who operate and maintain Navy shore commands.
 
“I am proud of you, and all NDW installations, for the impressive work you do every day in support of our mission, our tenants and our people,” said Lacore in an email announcing NDW’s winners of the 2023 award. “Keep up the great work!”
 
Four other installations compete for the Installation Excellence Award within NDW. Two of those installations compete against NSA Annapolis in the small installation category and were judged on quality of installation management, program excellence, and community outreach.
 
All NDW installations compete to demonstrate their proficiency in categories like mission support, energy, quality of life, environment, communications, safety and health, security and protection.
 
Achievements that helped NSA Annapolis win this award include:
  • Executed kickoff of 1st USNA resiliency plan project and seawall reconstruction in this century (congressionally enacted $37.M NAVFAC Seawall Restoration), while working with the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County to strategize Resilience Action Planning intended to protect community-based services and assets from future sea level rise and coastal flooding.
  • Opening 16 MWR Cottages project culmination on Greenbury Point, a project concept that originated in 2006.
  • Awarded Project Development and Master Planning study for USNA Upper & Lower Yards to integrate NSAA’s Military Installation Resilience Plan with the installation’s Long Range Master Plan (LRMP), supporting Installation Development Plan updates.
  • Design awarded to fully baffle the USNA Small Arms Range, reducing the surface danger zone, allowing safer use of land and waterways.
  • Awarded replacement of Yard Patrol (YP) pier, wave screens, piers ($63.2M) providing mooring for 20 YPs to improves safety & operational efficiency while protecting YPs.
  • Addressed community leadership regarding Greenbury Point Surface Danger Zone (SDZ) designation by the USACE, encompassing waterway restriction areas in the Severn River to support USNA firing range.
  • Nominated for CNO Safety Excellence Award by both NDW & CNIC.
  • Successful Make-A-Wish Foundation collaboration granting a military child a 17-ft boat & storage at NSAA Carr Creek Marina.
  • Life Saving Award for Off-Duty response to an attempted Bay Bridge jumper awarded to DoD Police LT Jeremy Brown.
 
“We are proud of this win because it means we are enhancing mission effectiveness,” said Capt. Chris Schwarz, NSA Annapolis Commanding Officer. “We strive to continually improve upon these accomplishments as we advance in this competition and face other regions across CNIC.”
