NSA Panama City's Touch-A-Truck event, held on October 12, drew the attention of students, and teachers in Bay County. Attendees were introduced to a diverse fleet of military vehicles, each representing an essential aspect of Navy operations. From oil spill response boats to fire engines and Bomb Disposal robots, children had the opportunity to explore these vehicles and learn about the vital roles they play in Navy missions.
"The Touch-A-Truck program helps educate the community on careers within the Navy and at the same time show off the new technology that the Navy uses," said Cmdr. Michael Mosi, Commander, Naval Support Activity Panama City.
Navy servicemembers, stationed near each vehicle, eagerly shared their knowledge and experiences with the young visitors. Engaging discussions on Navy careers and the latest technological advancements captivated the students, many of whom were inspired to consider future paths that aligned with their newfound interests.
Besides offering insights into Navy careers, the Touch-A-Truck event demonstrated the Navy's commitment to deploying cutting-edge technology. One highlight was the display of the state-of-the-art Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 6’s (EODMU-6) Truck Big Blue and its remarkable EOD robot. In addition to offering insights into Navy careers, this exhibition allowed children to operate the EOD robot, providing an exciting hands-on experience. The Navy bomb technicians present at the event passionately explained the critical role these advanced technologies play in ensuring safety during explosive ordnance disposal tasks.
A collaborative effort between NSA Panama City and Bay District Schools ensured that the Touch-A-Truck program reached beyond the naval base, benefiting students who may not have had access otherwise. This partnership fostered strong community engagement and enhanced understanding of the Navy's mission among students from various schools.
Commander Mosi reflected on the successful event, expressing appreciation to Bay District Schools for their support and emphasis on the importance of community collaboration. He highlighted the value of events like Touch-A-Truck in bridging the gap between the Navy and the community it serves.
The Touch-A-Truck program, with its focus on education, community engagement, and technological innovation, aligns with the Navy's ongoing commitment to fostering young minds and preparing them for future endeavors. By providing immersive experiences, the Navy paves the way for a brighter future, both for its operations and the talented individuals who may one day contribute to its critical missions.
The Touch-A-Truck event organized by NSA Panama City serves as a testament to the Navy's unwavering dedication to education, community outreach, and technological advancement.
