STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss. – Cmdr. Casey J. Gon relieved Cmdr. Jen Landry as the Commanding Officer of the Fleet Survey Team (FST) during a change of command ceremony on board Stennis Space Center, June 2. Capt. David Wolynski, Commanding Officer, Naval Oceanographic Office was the guest speaker.
Wolynski spoke of what it takes to be a commanding officer in the U.S. Navy, and that Cmdr. Landry embraced these virtues as the commanding officer of FST.
“No other military service places the trust, confidence, authorities, responsibilities and accountability in their commanding officers like the U.S. Navy. To be in command in the U.S. Navy is to accept a higher calling. A calling that requires sacrifice. A calling that places the health and welfare of your enlisted, officers and civilians above your own, at all times. A calling that Cmdr. Landry fully embraced as the Commanding Officer of the Fleet Survey Team,” Wolynski said. “For the U.S. Navy, Fleet Survey Team has been the vanguard and driver of naval hydrography innovation and expertise. And leading that naval hydrography charge has been Cmdr. Jen Landry.”
Wolynski then welcomed Gon to FST.
“I want to shift gears and welcome Cmdr. Casey Gon as Jen's relief. Casey comes to us from Command of the Naval Ice Center in Suitland, Maryland. Casey, you have big shoes to fill as FST CO. You also have a challenging assignment to stand down this magnificent command in the future and transition its capabilities,” Wolynski said.
During the ceremony, Landry expressed how deeply proud she was of all FST personnel she has led the previous 18 months and that it will be the people she will miss the most.
“Fleet Survey Team, you have shown the Navy what it is to be resilient. What it is to accept change. What it is to forge ahead into the future and redefine success. You have handled it all with grace and poise and I am so proud of you,” Landry said. “The thing I will miss the most about Fleet Survey Team is the people. I feel like I’ve been able to get to know each of you, and I thank each of you for that. I thank you for your hard work, your dedication and focus, and for sharing yourselves with me.”
Landry assumed command of FST in September 2021. She departs for Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., where she will serve as the Senior Oceanographic Detailer.
