09 June 2023

From Lt. j.g. Michaela White, Submarine Group TWO Public Affairs

Submarine Group TWO held a change of command ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, on June 9, 2023.

Rear Adm. Martin J. Muckian relieved Rear Adm. Brian L. Davies as commander, Submarine Group Two.

Vice Adm. William Houston, commander, Submarine Forces, praised Rear Adm. Davies for his leadership and success over his nearly two years at Submarine Group TWO (SUBGRU2).

“Under your leadership, the members of SUBGRU2 created an environment that maintained maritime readiness and ensured security in the undersea domain for us and our allies,” Vice Adm. Houston said. “Your team has continued to adapt to any challenges that have come their way and our assets have some of the most talented capabilities when it comes to deterring undersea threats because of your leadership.”

Rear Adm. Davies thanked Vice Adm. Houston for the opportunity to lead SUBGRU2 and thanked the command for their hard work and dedication to the ASW mission.

“The impact you had on SUBGRU2 is immeasurable,” Vice Adm. Richard Correll, deputy commander, U.S. Strategic Command, stated as the guest speaker about Rear Adm. Davies. “I know that I speak for everyone here today when I say that you will be missed. You kept the crew here ready for anything and fostered an environment for teamwork and collaboration between all warfare communities represented here”.

"It is the dedicated work of the men and women at Submarine Group TWO that keeps the command in a prominent role in our undersea warfighting space,” Rear Adm. Davies said. “The team was always looking to advance the art of undersea warfare. It has paid off against the threats of our adversaries that will continue to challenge us and our Allies and Partners. I'm extremely proud and humbled to have been your commander and there is no doubt in my mind that Rear Adm. Muckian is going to continue to do great things for this command.”

Rear Adm. Davies’ next assignment is as director, Learning to Action Drive Team (L2AB).

While assuming command, Rear Adm. Muckian highlighted what an honor it is to lead SUBGRU2.

“I look forward to joining the hardworking team here at Submarine Group TWO,” Rear Adm. Muckian said. “I am incredibly thankful to be your new commander.”

Submarine Group TWO executes integrated multi-domain undersea warfare to advance the art of theater undersea warfare providing our nation fully aware, fully informed, and fully connected undersea warfare forces to remain ready to dominate the warfighting spectrum from great power competition to conflict.
