08 June 2023

From By Mass Communications Specialist 1st Class Bryan Niegel, Navy Office of Community Outreach

Aerographer's mate Petty Officer 2nd Class Brianna Huntamer, a native of Edmonds, Washington, reenlisted after completing aerographer's mate C-school course at Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Keesler on Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.

The duration of the course spans nine months, during which sailors undergo comprehensive training to attain the esteemed designation of Navy meteorologists and oceanographers upon completion.

Huntamer enlisted in the Navy three years ago and currently holds the position of aerographer's mate.

Huntamer expressed, "My decision to join the Navy stemmed from a desire to complete my nursing degree and embrace a new and challenging experience."

Having grown up in Edmonds and attended Shorewood High School, Huntamer draws upon the skills and values instilled in that community to achieve success in the military.

A valuable lesson Huntamer acquired in their upbringing was the reassurance that everything will ultimately work out. This mindset has been instrumental in maintaining a positive outlook within the Navy.

These invaluable lessons have significantly aided Huntamer throughout their tenure in the Navy.

The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command assumes the responsibility of directing and supervising over 2,500 military and civilian personnel stationed worldwide. Their crucial role entails the collection, processing, and utilization of environmental data to enable Fleet and Joint Commanders to make well-informed decisions in a prompt manner, surpassing the capabilities of opposing forces.

Navy Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) members are instrumental in providing technical and tactical guidance to Navy personnel, whether they are operating in the air, at sea, or beneath the waves. Their expertise and insights are integral to the functioning of Navy equipment, personnel, and decision-making processes.

Naval Oceanography encompasses a diverse range of missions that play a pivotal role in supporting the current Naval fleet. These missions include oceanography, hydrography, meteorology, climate science, geospatial information science, astrometry, Earth orientation, and precise timekeeping.

As a proud member of the Navy, Huntamer is part of an esteemed organization dedicated to upholding maritime dominance, fostering partnerships, enhancing competitive warfighting capabilities, and ensuring combat-ready forces in alignment with the National Defense Strategy.

Huntamer stated, "The Navy's contribution to national defense lies in its preparedness to respond promptly to any situation that may arise."

Throughout their military service, Huntamer and their fellow sailors are presented with numerous opportunities to achieve remarkable feats.

"I take immense pride in being invited as an airman to provide insights on an initiative that will have a positive impact on coast-to-coast fleet weather centers," Huntamer proclaimed.

As Huntamer and their fellow sailors continue to train diligently and execute missions, they remain steadfast in their commitment to serve their country as proud members of the United States Navy.

Huntamer further added, "Serving in the Navy has not only allowed me to grow personally but has also provided me with unparalleled opportunities that would have been unimaginable had I not made the decision to enlist."
