NAVAL AIR STATION PENSACOLA, Fla. – Recently the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) announced its 2022 Marine of the Year.

The board results are in and Staff Sgt. Corey Wolfe, an administrative chief at CNATT Unit New River, North Carolina, was selected from an accomplished group of Marines.

Wolfe, a Kansas City, Kansas native, expressed humility after learning he won the award.

“I’m very honored that my unit submitted me for this award, because I work with some awesome leaders,” Wolfe said. “To be counted among the “best” of them is very humbling.  It’s a testament to the hard work of my Marines that I was recognized for this award.”

Lt. Col. Marc Blankenbicker, CNATTU New River commanding officer, was impressed with Wolfe’s approach to the mission from day one.

“Since the day he arrived here, Staff Sergeant Wolfe has committed himself to improving his work center, the headquarters, and the entire command in any way he could,” Blankenbicker said.  “He mixes tact and professionalism with the right amount of get-it-done forcefulness while exemplifying our standards and core values. And even as a top performer, he continues to look for opportunities to improve himself through learning opportunities and teaching moments.”

Wolfe said he takes a “common-sense” approach to exemplifying leadership for other Marines.

“If it makes sense, do it; if it doesn’t, don’t,” Wolfe said about his leadership style.  “I try my best to impress upon my Marines that doing it the right way the first time will almost always save time in the long run.  Thoroughness and attention to detail is paramount in administration, and I always try to model that for my Marines.”

As for career aspirations, Wolfe said he's working on his warrant officer package and hopes to be stationed in Japan if the package is approved.
