NAVAL AIR STATION OCEANA, Va. – The Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Oceana students and staff welcomed their new commanding officer in a change of command ceremony June 2.

Cmdr. Patrick Batiste, assumed command of CNATTU Oceana from Cmdr. Tony Barber after previously serving as the unit’s executive officer.  Barber had been the commanding officer of CNATTU Oceana since he assumed command in December 2020. Barber will now retire from the U.S. Navy.

During his remarks, Barber thanked friends and family for their constant support throughout his career. He gave special thanks to his wife (in attendance), for “walking him to the bus” those many years ago and supporting him since. He also gave praise and thanks to the staff of CNATTU Oceana for their hard work and support during his time as commanding officer.

Capt. Vence Logan, CNATT commanding officer, served as the event’s guest speaker.  CNATTU Oceana is one of 23 learning sites within CNATT. The command also welcomed Cmdr. Uries Anderson, CNATTU Oceana's new executive officer.

Batiste, a Cottonport, Louisiana, native, said that he is looking forward to leading CNATTU Oceana into the future and thanked Barber for his leadership. Batiste has had a long and prosperous career in the navy dating back to 1988 when he enlisted as an aviation boatswain’s mate, commissioning as a limited duty officer in 2003 and now assuming the title of commanding officer at CNATTU Oceana.

Batiste earned his Bachelors of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct Medal (four awards), and numerous letters of commendation, service ribbons, and medals.
