Students from the 2022 National Summer Transportation Institute Visit NBG

NAVAL BASE GUAM (June 10, 2022) - Students from the 2022 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) toured the U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) Transportation Motor Pool as part of a two-week long summer program under the Guam Community College (GCC), June 10.

NAVAL BASE GUAM (June 10, 2022) - Students from the 2022 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) toured the U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) Transportation Motor Pool as part of a two-week long summer program under the Guam Community College (GCC), June 10. 

 

Seventeen middle school students from throughout the Guam Department of Education were introduced to the various sections of the motor pool and met with DZSP-21 transportation personnel to learn about the different facets of transportation onboard NBG. 

 

Students visited sections including DZSP-21 Transportation’s Parts and Materials, Tool Room, Light Motor and Heavy Equipment Motor Pool, Material Handling Equipment, Body Shop, and Crane Maintenance and Rigging Loft. 

 

The program is funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, with the goal of introducing interested middle school students to the possibilities of a career in the transportation industry and to begin contemplating their pathways to college.

 

Additionally, students visited Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor and toured Coast Guard Cutter Sequoia located at Coast Guard Sector Guam. 

 

Students also enjoyed a windshield tour of the installation and stopped for lunch at Gab Gab beach.
