51st Anniversary of the Navy Ombudsman Program

13 September 2021

From CNRF Public Affairs

Navy Ombudsmen assist commanders, respond to family concerns and needs, and facilitate a network of strong community services. Ombudsmen allow Sailors and commands to focus on being ready to fight on day one if called upon—while knowing their loved ones are supported at home.
Admiral Elmo Zumwalt Jr. established the Navy Family Command Ombudsman Program Sept. 14, 1970. For 51 years, civilian volunteers appointed by local commanding officers have willingly dedicated themselves to our Sailors and their families’ welfare across the globe.

Our Navy Reserve mission to deliver strategic depth to the Navy, Marine Corps and joint forces depends on our Sailors’ ability to focus on warfighting readiness.  The link between command leadership and families is critical to meeting that mission.

Navy Ombudsmen assist commanders, respond to family concerns and needs, and facilitate a network of strong community services. Ombudsmen allow Sailors and commands to focus on being ready to fight on day one if called upon—while knowing their loved ones are supported at home.

Navy Ombudsmen, you provide a unique role in our strategic defense, and your impact is widely recognized.  Thank for your tireless efforts on behalf of a grateful Navy Reserve.

Keep up the great work!
