Commander, U.S. Submarine Forces, Vice Adm. Daryl Caudle, hosted Vice Adm. Nick Hine, Royal Navy Second Sea Lord, in Norfolk, Virginia, Aug. 5.
The engagement provided the structure and goals for steady mutual collaboration, as well as, an understanding of submarine operations, training and safety.
“It was an honor to meet with Vice Adm. Nick Hine, a warrior and great friend, to discuss opportunities to further our interchangeability and lethality, and continue our combined dominance of the undersea,” said Caudle. “The Royal Navy is a critical and long-standing strategic partner for the U.S. Submarine Force, and we will continue to work together to defeat threats against our shared national interests in the undersea.”
While in Hampton Roads, the delegation visited local commands and toured USS New Hampshire (SSN 778).
The mission of the Submarine Force is to execute the Department of the Navy’s mission in and from the undersea domain. In addition to lending added capacity to naval forces, the Submarine Force, in particular, is expected to leverage those special advantages that come with undersea concealment to permit operational, deterrent and combat effects that the Navy and the nation could not otherwise achieve.
The Submarine Force and supporting organizations constitute the primary undersea arm of the Navy. Submarines and their crews remain the tip of the undersea spear.
