Rear Adm. Brendan McLane, commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT), appointed Lt. Cmdr. Carleigh Gregory as new director of the Surface Maintenance Operations Center (S-MOC), at Naval Station Norfolk, July 28.
SURFLANT stood up S-MOC last month as a cross-organizational team with various stakeholders in the maintenance and modernization community, including the Director for Surface Ship Maintenance and Modernization and Naval Supply Systems Command. The goal is to streamline communications among various entities to enable rapid resolution for maintenance and material issues and maximize material readiness on pre-deployment ships.
“S-MOC is an excellent initiative to further fleet readiness and I’m excited to be a part of that progress,” said Gregory. “My immediate focus is working with the team to identify and track sustainment and readiness issues, pursuing increased material readiness, and enhancing visibility and collaboration across the maintenance enterprise.”
McLane looks forward to the S-MOC accelerating with Gregory at the helm.
“As a former Material Readiness Officer for Destroyer Squadron 22, she brings a wealth of knowledge,” he said. “She will be a driving force to enable rapid maintenance and material resolution to maritime material readiness generation.”
Before her assignment as S-MOC director, Gregory served in SURFLANT N43, in charge of Policies, Programs, and Knowledge Management.
SURFLANT mans, trains and equips assigned surface forces and shore activities, ensuring a capable force for conducting prompt and sustained operations in support of United States national interests. The SURFLANT force is composed of nearly 80 ships, 15 pre-commissioning units, and more than 30 shore commands.
