From Chief Aviation Electronics Technician John S. Barber

Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit North Island’s (CNATTU NI) Mobile Training Team (MTT) recently executed refresher courses onboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. Due to COVID-19, the command’s mobile footprint was diminished, but CNATTU NI is proud to return to supporting the fleet abroad.

Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit North Island’s (CNATTU NI) Mobile Training Team (MTT) executed refresher courses onboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.  Due to COVID-19, the command’s mobile footprint was diminished, but CNATTU NI is proud to return to supporting the fleet abroad.

Subject-matter experts Aviation Boatswain’s Mate-Launching & Recovery First Class Bleen Delacruz, Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate-Fules Brad Cooper, and Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate-Aircraft Handling John PerezPujols traveled to Washington in mid-June to provide follow-on training as representatives for CNATTU NI’s MTT.  The three instructors led 135 Sailors through 228 hours of instruction regarding arresting gear, aircraft handling, sexual assault prevention and response, and quality assurance.

The efforts of the MTT brings attention to the basics and establishes a foundation for fleet forces to expand upon while emphasizing safety first.  The USS Nimitz requested the CNATTU NI MTT’s assistance in preparation of upcoming aircraft carrier flight deck certification later this fall.

CNATTU NI Commanding Officer Kent Davis expressed his appreciation for his staff’s efforts.

“Big Bravo Zulu to my AB MTT team who coordinated a last-minute request to support the USS Nimitz flight deck certification this fall,” Davis said.  “Watching what goes on behind the scenes with MTT and even with the daily operation of instructing future naval war fighters is pretty magical.”
