Cmdr. Marcus Creighton relieved Cmdr. Jack Morris as commanding officer of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Norfolk during a change of command ceremony Feb. 12.

A native of Lancaster, S.C., Creighton enlisted in the Navy in 1987 as an aviation ordnanceman and advanced through the ranks to chief petty officer. He commissioned via the Limited Duty Officer program in 2002.

Creighton, who previously served as the unit’s executive officer, expressed that he is equal parts honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as commanding officer of the organization.

I will work hard to provide this staff with every opportunity to succeed, both personally and professionally,” Creighton said. “We aim to provide the Naval Aviation Enterprise with highly-trained officers and Sailors in pursuit of its mission to project maritime superiority, lethal striking power and the moral resolve required to take the fight to the enemy, wherever they maybe. All in the effort to win decisively.”

While in command of CNATTU Norfolk, Morris was responsible for more than 170 personnel daily, encompassing 2,020 class convenes and a student population of 14,368. Morris will now retire from the U.S. Navy with 33 years of service.

“I count it a great honor to have had the opportunity to serve as the commanding officer of this organization,” Morris said. It was an amazing opportunity because of the Sailors and civilians assigned. Together, we have shaped current and future Naval Aviation training. Together, we have made a lasting and positive impact on our mission by making the Naval Aviation Enterprise stronger through continuously improved training and out-of-the box methods of delivery. Lastly, together we have always endeavored to take care of our CNATTU family, whatever the challenge! I thank each member of CNATTU Norfolk for their contribution to our overwhelming success and their attitude of excellence! I can sum it up with that last word, EXCELLENCE!”

The CNATTU Norfolk staff also welcomed Cmdr. Elouise Hurst as their new executive officer. Hurst has had an array of assignments that will add to the exceptional experience present at CNATTU.
