Southwest Regional Maintenance Center Implements Job Rotation Program

Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) recently implemented a short-term job rotation program with several employees completing rotations in early 2021.

SAN DIEGO —Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) recently implemented a short-term job rotation program with several employees completing rotations in early 2021.

“Training our employees has been one of my top priorities during my time at SWRMC,” said Capt. David Hart, SWRMC’s commanding officer. “It is important that we are ensuring our next leaders will be well rounded and ready to take on the mission with a broadened expertise and knowledge.”

Job rotation assignments are a maximum duration of 90 days and afford participants a chance to obtain hands-on experience, develop new skills, and overcome educational and learning challenges to improve job performance and contribute to the growth of the organization. 

“The rotations help employees to develop and practice new skills and competencies they may need in future positions which may positively and indirectly impact one’s ability to get hired or promoted,”  said Joseph Willis, SWRMC Workforce Development Administrator.

Training and development of the civilian workforce is essential as the command looks toward the future in support of SWRMC’s mission.  As technology and information systems evolve and the pace of work increases, the ability to adapt to is vital for mission success.  Cross training and job rotations provide an opportunity for SWRMC employees to enhance their networks, while developing as professionals and contributing to critical projects throughout the command.  SWRMC is committed to creating opportunities and helping employees discover them.

“It was a great experience, I learned a lot during my job rotation. I had the opportunity to work and collaborate with so many amazing people who I’ve never worked with before in the past,” said Mary Anne Lagda, from the SWRMC Government Travel office. Lagda recently completed a 90 day rotation in the Waterfront Operations Department. “Social networking is key, especially in today’s environment. This job rotation gave me an opportunity to interact with all the departments within SWRMC, outside of government travel.”

SWRMC is meeting its mission to provide superior ship maintenance, modernization, technical support, and training for the Pacific Fleet.
