SAN DIEGO – Lt. Emily J. Hawkins, the supply officer aboard USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), received the Navy League of the United States’ Vice Adm. Robert F. Batchelder Award at Naval Base San Diego on Aug. 16.

Hawkins earned the award for her personal devotion to her work as a supply officer at Fleet Logistics Center Naples, Italy. She became the supply officer aboard Mobile Bay on Aug. 5. Due to her change of station, she was not able to attend the award presentation by the Navy League, so Capt. Jerry King, from Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella and Capt. Pamela Theorgood, Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics and Ordnance, worked out a way to honor her in front of the San Diego waterfront supply team.

“We have a superstar among us,” said Theorgood. "Lt. Emily Hawkins is the epitome of what the Vice Adm. Batchelder Award is about. She continues to showcase excellence in action, and I expect great things from her as the Supply Corps Department Head on CG 53."

Theorgood presented the award to Hawkins with Mobile Bay commanding officer Capt. Bob Bryans who said he expects supply officers to report to the command ready to excel and Hawkins has done just that.

“It was a huge honor to be nominated, let alone be selected,” said Hawkins.

The Batchelder Awards, established in 1983, are named in memory of the former inspector general of the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts, now known as Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP). The award recognizes five junior Navy Supply Corps officers who have made the most significant personal contributions to the supply readiness of the operating forces.

The award is part of the Navy League of the United States’ annual Sea Service Awards in recognition of outstanding individual achievements in leadership, maritime affairs, scientific progress, engineering excellence, logistics competence, excellence in intelligence and service to community and country.
