DARWIN, Australia – The Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Patriot (MCM 7) arrived in Darwin, Australia, for a port visit, July 11.
Patriot is visiting Darwin while operating in U.S. 7th Fleet to work and strengthen regional security and stability.
“USS Patriot's visit to Darwin is yet another opportunity to continue to strengthen the shared naval heritage, interoperability, and strategic alliance between our two nations.” said Lt. Cmdr. Jon Volkle, commanding officer of Patriot.
This port visit follows Patriot's participation in the 25th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise in Sattahip, Thailand where the crew was involved in 11 days of onshore and at-sea training with the Royal Thai Navy.
They also recently visited Jakarta and Bali where the crew had the opportunity to work with their Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) counterparts enhancing interoperability and promoting regional stability.
"I've always wanted to go to Australia," said Mineman 3rd class Jeremiah Jensen. "I'm excited to experience the culture, unique wildlife, natural wonders, and wide open spaces!"
Patriot is part of Commander, Mine Countermeasures Squadron 7 and is forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. They are operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of regional peace and stability.
