Previously called the Antiterrorism/Force Protection Ashore Program, the Navy Public Safety Systems program was renamed and realigned from Naval Facilities and Engineering Command to the shore enterprise at the beginning of the current fiscal year. Its critical mission of protecting the base also extends to keeping Sailors and families safe across the globe.
“The realignment to CNIC is something we are very excited about,” said Mark Sinder, director of operations for CNIC. “This transition will enable better collaboration with the regions and the fleet, and allow us to focus on providing increased capability to the warfighter. I have every confidence in the team and am excited to have them onboard and integrated with our CNIC operations family.”
The program was established 15 years ago with the goal of developing more robust security capabilities for the Navy and has played a pivotal role in ensuring installations and ashore assets are secure. Throughout the years, the program has continued to focus on providing best-in-class security solutions to Navy bases around the world, and will continue to do so under CNIC.
“I am so proud to see this realignment finally come to fruition,” said Mike Velasquez, who is the deputy program manager. “We are grateful to all the NAVFAC leaders over the span of our program’s history and look forward to our future under CNIC. Moving forward, we will focus on evolving our skills, improving processes, standardizing our product offerings and increasing customer confidence.”
The program is responsible for complete lifecycle management of force protection, emergency management and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive defense systems and equipment for the Navy installations. It also supports an expansive set of functions, including research, development, testing and evaluation, system design, installation, sustainment, in-service engineering, configuration management and cybersecurity for their products and services.
