Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain awarded a three-year contract to Dhaif Insurance Agency at a ceiling price of $3.3 million for Bahraini Grade (BG) employees’ health insurance, Sept. 30.
To align to the Bahrain law of providing employer-sponsored health insurance, the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract offers coverage to approximately 1,000 BG employees staffed on Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain.
“BG employees are essential command support personnel on NSA Bahrain,” said Egbert Goodman, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain contract specialist. “Military members, Department of Defense civilians and contractors are in Bahrain temporarily, but the BG workforce is constant and provide stability within the organizations on base.”
“This new contract for local national health insurance is definitely a boost to the BG employees’ morale and healthcare, helping alleviate the financial burden during times of illness and medical treatment,” said Abhilash Moorkoth, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain contract specialist. “This type of support will be positively reflected in the day-to-day and overall operations in each command.”
NAVSUP FLC Bahrain contracting department collaborated with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the Department of State to determine the details of the requirement. The insurance plan covers a full range of health care to include hospitalization, optical, dental, maternity, and prescription medicines.
After conducting market research, the NAVSUP FLC Bahrain contracting department solicited the requirement and a best value award decision was made based on competitive proposals received.
“For the first time in a number of years, our BG teammates have health insurance coverage. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain significantly helped bring that to reality, and it is something to be proud of,” said Cmdr. Ronald Terry, deputy chief of NAVSUP FLC Bahrain contracting office.
NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
