From Ensign Nicholas L. McGrath

Adm. James Foggo, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG-71) Nov. 7, 2017, to meet the crew.

Adm. James Foggo, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG-71) Nov. 7, 2017, to meet the crew.

Foggo met with Ross’ senior leadership before meeting with the rest of the wardroom to discuss the lessons learned from the U.S. Fleet Forces comprehensive review of surface force incidents.

He emphasized the importance of forceful backup while on watch and the future policies that will better facilitate a more rested crew.

Foggo held an all-hands call with Ross and USS Carney Sailors to address both crews and answer questions regarding future port visits and increasing collaboration with our NATO allies.

“It was a pleasure to have Adm. Foggo aboard Ross, and a fantastic opportunity for the officers and crew to learn from his fresh perspective on current and future operations in our area of operations,” said Cmdr. Bryan Gallo, commanding officer of Ross. “The shifting geopolitical landscape will certainly expand the scope of the forward-deployed naval forces mission, and I wholeheartedly believe that Ross and the rest of forward-deployed naval forces Europe have his utmost confidence to meet those challenges.”

Ross, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, conducts naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
