The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard 270-foot medium endurance cutter Thetis (WMEC-910) arrived in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, March 8, 2019 for a scheduled port visit.

Thetis began its first patrol to support operations with U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and U.S. 6th Fleet (C6F) after departing Key West, Florida Feb. 26 and is the first U.S. Coast Guard Cutter to deploy to region since 2012.

“My crew and I are looking forward to visiting the city of Mindelo,” said Cmdr. Randall Chong, commanding officer of Thetis. “Building, maintaining and strengthening relationships is critical to ensure regional cooperation and addressing challenges.”

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests, security and stability in Europe and Africa.
