The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24) departed Augusta Bay, Italy, after completing a scheduled port visit, Jan. 28, 2019.
Arlington arrived in Augusta Bay Jan. 25 and re-supplied during the four-day port visit.
“We needed food, repair parts and mail,” said Lt. Taylor Shipley, supply officer aboard Arlington. “During our visit to Augusta Bay the crew loaded supplies and also had the opportunity for some well-earned time off and relaxation in Sicily.”
The crew of Arlington also had the chance to participate in a community outreach event where Sailors and Marines helped landscape a park in the city of Catania.
Arlington is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations as part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations, crisis response and theater security cooperation, while also providing a forward naval presence.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
