Mr. Steve Murley has been the Executive for Commander Navy Region Korea since December 2022. In this capacity, he serves as the senior civilian and principal advisor to the Commander, and is responsible for policy, strategy, governance, and business management for Shore Installation Management. He leads efforts in future-year defense planning, resource programming, and investment strategy to ensure the effective delivery of shore-based capability to the fleet, joint, and allied forces across the Korean Peninsula.
He previously served as the operations program director (N3), Navy Region Korea, in October 2021. He was the principal advisor on all matters of operations and public safety to the Commander.
He has filled various positions within CNIC, including Training and Readiness N7, Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic N3AT, and Norfolk Navy Shipyard Emergency Management.
He joined the Navy in 1984 and graduated from Nuclear Power School and prototype training. After completing a nuclear refueling overhaul as an engineering laboratory technician on USS Flying Fish (SSN 673), he was selected into the NROTC Program at the University of Washington. He has served aboard USS Oliver Hazard Perry, USS Winston S. Churchill, Cruiser Destroyer Group 8, and Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group.
His tours of shore duty included Maritime Combat Coordinating Element as part of Multinational Forces Iraq; Team Leader for CENTCOM Force Protection Assessments Directorate; and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic as the Deputy Antiterrorism Officer.
He is a native of San Diego, CA, and always a Washington Husky! He is married to the love of his life, Eileen, and they share five children and seven grandchildren.
